Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am delighted to have your son or daughter in my Spanish class, and look forward to meeting you sometime during the year if we have not already met. My purpose in writing this letter is to acquaint you with certain activities,which will be occurring this year, and to let you know what will be expected of the students.
The beginning of the year will involve intensive listening, speaking, re ading, and writing (generally in that order) in the foreign language. I try to use Spanish as much as possible, even in the beginning. Students will not be expected to understand everything, but are expected to continue to try to understand and try to use what they learn. We will be doing many different activities that may not always seem academic (crafts, songs, skits, games)along with typically academic exercises, but the intent will always be to learn to use Spanish in a practical, authentic way.
My intent is to teach your child Spanish. I believe that everyone is capable not only passing Spanish, but also doing well. The key to success will be daily study and being prepared for and participating in class each day. Homework will be assigned most days and students will be expected to attempt every item. The homework given will be to reinforce what we have already covered in class. Students will receive a 100 as 15% of their grade if all assignments are complete. Zeros and incompletes will lower the final grade. Classwork and quizzes will make up 50% of the grade. Tests will count the most.
