Español II
In Spanish I, students receive an introduction to the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. The aim is to help students acquire a solid foundation in Spanish grammar and vocabulary by utilizing all four communication areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The vocabulary that students learn is directly related to the purposes and situations identified. Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the four communication skill areas as well as increase their knowledge and perspectives of cultural aspects of the target language. The goal at this level is to train students to think in the language and communicate in an authentic and meaningful manner.

Spanish II expands the four basic skills areas taught in Spanish I. Though oral communication is the main focus, there is increased emphasis placed on reading and writing. In Spanish II, students will increase their ability to convey immediate needs and to interact in everyday situations at home, school, or while traveling. Students will be able to discuss topics such as family, residence, self, weather, time, and interests. The content expansion will include command commands, frequent instructions, and courtesy interchanges. The grammatical structures will include present, past and future indicative tenses with an introduction to the present subjunctive. Speaking and listening proficiency will continue as the students’ understanding of grammar, idioms and more specialized vocabulary deepens.
