| First grade is a time of discovery and growth. It is the time when students move from being virtual non-readers at the beginning of the year to a strong independent reader by the end of the year. It is a time when students gain confidence and develop a life-long love for learning. |

Miss Speir has been teaching for thirty years. She has been at Brookwood since it opened twenty years ago. She taught third grade for many years and began teaching first grade eight years ago. She loves seeing the faces of excited first graders as they gain such a love for reading. She loves technology and enjoys getting to join her love of teaching with her enthusiasm for computers when she teaches professional learning computer classes to adults. She loves digital photography and scrapbooking the pictures she takes with her digital cameras. She also is very involved in her church, where her best friend pastors.
Ms White has been a parapro at Brookwood for many years. She was a parapro in third grade and in the computer lab before coming to first grade. She is best-known though for being on the car rider ramp greeting students as they come to school. She and her husband, Chip, have two grown sons that are both marrried and one precious granddaughter, Aubrey White. |
