| | | We are now at mid-point in our first grade year, WOW!! The students are working hard and accomplishing so MUCH! On Monday, January 7th, the students completed the Words Their Way Spelling Assessment. I have used this assessment information to differentiate spelling groups for our class. The “Words Their Way” program is a developmental program designed to allow each student to work and progress at their individual ability level. We will do sorting activities in class with the spelling words, and we will ask you to repeat these activities at home for homework. The activities will largely be the same from week to week to minimize confusion. Students usually find our sorting activities fun and engaging – we hope you will, too! |

| | Welcome 2008! | Now that we are ACTUALLY practicing second graders...there are a couple things that the students should be doing each day. #1 Reading, reading, READING and taking AT LEAST one accelerated reading test every two weeks. #2 Practing math facts- all students should know simple additon problems --INSTANTLY! Let's continue to practice! Everyone is doing GREAT! |
| | "GATOR FOLDER " | Please remember to check and initial your child's G.A.T.O.R. (getting all things organized and ready) folder each night. The GATOR folder contains homework assignments and important notes from school. We are working on Responsibility; the students know that it is their "job" to bring their GATOR folder home each day and return it to school each morning!
| | | In additon to the GATOR folder.... | | Spelling words will no longer be listed on the homework calendars. Your child’s spelling list will be located in his/her spelling homework folder. There will also be an envelope in your child’s spelling homework folder. After your child cuts the words apart this is where the words will be stored. Your child will bring home a new page of spelling words each Monday. |
