First Grade homework is en extension of our class work. Parents are encouraged to be involved practicing math facts, spelling words, vocabulary words and instant words.
Reading daily is expected. Reading logs are in the take home folder. These should be completed and left in the folder. On Tuesday and Thursday nights the basal reader comes home. Reading the story of the week is the reading assignment on those nights.
Spelling journals will come home Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. On Monday the words should be traced, on Tuesday and Wednesday students should write 2 sentences using some of the words. Words are derived from the phonics word patterns we are doing on a given week.
Math homework will be noted on the weekly newsletter. Practice workbooks were sent home. Pages that are assigned should be completed and returned on Fridays. Pages that are not assigned can be used for extra practice at home.
Please do not let the students work ahead.
Homework should take no more than 30 minutes per night. If there are
concerns, please contact me.
