Welcome to 1st Grade!
Welcome to our class and to my web page. I hope this page will be helpful to you throughout this school year. You can email me by clicking in the left navigation. You can see our schedule, our supply list and our vocabulary words. Other curriculum info and class news will be located in the sections below! |
 Reading is the key! |
Language Arts
We have started Unit 8. It is called AWAY WE GROW. We will read non-fiction and fiction stories about plants and how they grow. We will talk about the parts of a plant and what plants need to grow. This unit lasts for 5 weeks. You will get an updated High Frequency Word chart very soon. This will be the last one. There will be no more additions to our HFW list. Keep working on those high frequency words. |
 Spelling and Phonics |
We now have spelling tests!
The spelling words in Unit 8 will review vowel sounds that we have learned. They will now need to use those sounds in their spelling. I am planning on putting all the Unit 8 spelling lists in the left navigation under spelling. The lists will also be attached each Monday to the newsletter. Spend some time each day working on spelling words. |
Do you know the names of the coins? |
Math
Math has been all about MONEY lately. We have been working hard on counting combinations of coins up to 100 cents or $1. We will also be counting dollar bills. Once we finish money, we will move into Telling Time on the hour and 1/2 hour. I know you have heard about MATH WARS in math. Our teams have been doing great with their math facts and it shows. Both teams have gotten a ribbon in Math Wars twice now. Your child will be very glad they learned their math facts! It will help them in math from now on!!!!! |
 Sound, Light and Magnets |
Science
Our reading theme is doing a great job of reviewing the science unit we did on plants back at the beginning of the year. We are also working on Sound and Light. We will be doing exploration with Magnets, too. |

We keep a careful watch over tardies and absences! -School starts at 8:30. They are TARDY if they arrive after the 2nd bell which rings at 8:35!
