Ms. Thigpen's Homework
Students have homework Monday through Thursday night in their homework folder. To see what the assignment is for each night, look on the homework calendar inside your child's folder. Homework given each night is based on major concepts taught in the classroom that day. At the beginnig of the week, students are given a list of spelling words. Students are tested on Friday over how to spell the words. Students are also given a sentence dictation test. The sentence dictation test the student's ability to write a sentence correctly and spell the spelling word in the sentence correctly. In Language Arts, a new story is introduced on Monday. The students are introduced to a wide variety of genres. Each story introduces five vocabulary words that correlate with the story and a language arts concept. Students are usually tested on Friday over the story. Another major area of second grade homework is reading Accelerated Reader(AR) books. In the pocket of the homework folder is a slip of paper for you to sign stating that your child is ready to take an AR test. Reading AR books motivates and challenges your child to be a better reader.
