| | Hierarchy of Social Development | | The Discipline without Stress® philosophy teaches children to STOP and think about their actions and how it effects their school community. This is combined with the Love and Logic® approach of giving students the tools and responsibility to handle their own problems in a reflective way. If you have any questions or concerns about this new program, please talk with your child's teacher or set up an appointment to speak with one of our administrators. |

Discipline Without Stress ®
|
Discipline without Stress® Punishments or Rewards uses a simple-to-implement approach referred to as the RAISE RESPONSIBILITY SYSTEM. The system can be used in any home or home setting, any classroom (elementary, middle, or high), or it can be used school-wide.
When the system is implemented in a classroom, the class environment changes. When the program is adopted as a school-wide discipline program, the school culture changes.
The system promotes self-discipline and responsibility because the person is empowered--rather than the usual approach of being overpowered, which so often results in resistance and stress.
The RAISE RESPONSIBILITY SYSTEM is based on teaching four concepts or levels of social development. During inappropriate behavior, a guidance approach is employed using these concepts to foster self-evaluation. If disruptions continue, authority is employed without being punitive.
Rewards and punishments are not used because they only foster compliance, not commitment. In addition, they are useless if an adult is not present. Rewards and punishments are manipulators that set up students to be dependent upon external agents. They do not foster long-term intrinsic motivation or responsibility.
In sum, the RAISE RESPONSIBILITY SYSTEM shows how internal motivation is far more powerful and effective in changing behavior than are punishments or rewards.
