COLUMBIA COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM BUDGET
The school system's current general fund operating budget is $176,068,025. By state law, the School Board is required to adopt a fiscal budget prior to July 1 of each year. The school system is also required by State law to adopt and publish a tentative budget. This tentative budget is advertised in the Columbia County News Times before the final budget adoption and will state the date, time and location at which the final adoption will be considered.
The general fund revenue is derived from various sources:
Local (includes property taxes, motor vehicle taxes, and interest)
State (includes QBE, State grants)
Federal (includes Impact Aid)
The combined general fund expenditures for FY 2009 are 78% for instruction and other student related items; 4% for transportation; 8% for maintenance; 6% for school administration; 4% for System Support Operations. See the attached for the approved FY09 Budget by category.
