Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten. We have a lottery funded Pre-K class of 20 children here at Brookwood Elementary School that is staffed with a classroom teacher and paraprofessional. Columbia County has adopted the High Scope curriculum where our children learn through play and movement. We do not complete worksheets or have homework, but we do sing and move to music, read, paint and play together everyday. We also learn poems and nursery rhymes, make fun creations, and cook on a regular basis. Our days are planned around themes like Fall, Foods, Sea Life, and Nursery Rhymes. The curriculum areas that we teach are Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Social and Emotional, Creative _Expression, and Physical Development. These areas are divided into standards that are aligned with Georgia's Quality Core Curriculum. Our class will go on several field trips during the year, and we encourage parents to go with us. All parents are encouraged to spend time in the classroom with their child. The children eat breakfast, lunch, and snack at school.
