Accelerated Reader is a school-wide focus. Third grade students are required to earn 12 points in AR for each of nine week periods. All third grade students are will participate in the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). This test is generally given in the fall. The results of this test allow the teachers to better focus and to meet the needs of individual students. In the spring, the Criteron Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) is given to each student. All third grade students are required to pass the reading section of this test in order to be promoted to fourth grade. The third grade students annually present the patriotic play, "Brookwood Sings America". They also participate in the annual curriculum fair as well as the school-wide art show.
