Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year! My goal as the CMS graduation coach is to help our students reach Georgia’s target to graduate all students on track and on time. The overall mission of a graduation coach is to ensure a successful transition of students from elementary to middle and middle to high school. The graduation coach identifies students in need of additional support and works with them to achieve academic success. Coaches work to ensure that identified students receive the resources and services needed to guide them on the path to graduation. This support not only increases our graduation rate, but ensures that we are providing our students with well informed choices as to their future studies and career plans.
As your Columbia Middle graduation coach, I will:
-provide individual mentoring sessions to build working relationships with students -use parent communication as a tool for student success -help students formulate intervention strategies for failing grades -encourage students to come to school every day -work with each grade level on specific topics: study skills, test-taking skills, career development units, CRCT tips, proper use of agenda, organization of materials -introduce motivational speakers -meet with teachers, parents and administrators to identify students who need additional support -assist students to remove barriers to academic success and graduation -follow up on attendance...a key component for academic success. -assist students in drawing up an academic or behavioral goal plan |
