A new and improved program!
AR logo

Many of us are familiar the with Accelerated Reader program that has been used in Columbia County elementary schools for years. AR gets students excited about reading and vocabulary. They are motivated to read constantly—during recess, at lunch, at home, everywhere!

This year we have upgraded to a new version of AR, Accelerated Reader Enterprise. Just like the previous version of Accelerated Reader, students follow these three steps:
1. Student Reads a Book. Students choose books at their appropriate reading levels and read them at their own pace.
2. Student Takes a Quiz.
3. Teacher, Student and Parent Get Information. The teacher and student get immediate feedback after each quiz is taken. Teachers keep parents informed of student progress.

But this year there is an exciting new feature! We now have access to every quiz that is offered by Renaissance Learning, the company that produces the Accelerated Reader program. That's over 100,000 quizzes! That means that we have access to quizzes for books at the public library and books in your home library. If Renaissance Learning makes it, we have it! To find out if your book has an accompanying quiz, click on the link above to go to the Renaissance Learning quiz store. Put in the name of your book and click "GO". If there is a quiz, you will see the author, the book level, the interest level, and the points. Click again on the title and you'll see a picture of the front cover and get a short summary. (Sometimes two books have the same title, so make sure you check the author, too.)

When helping your child select a book from home or from the public library, keep in mind that he or she will make the most progress in reading skills when reading a book that is a little bit challenging - not too easy but not too difficult. The teacher can tell you exactly what book level range is best for your child.
