THE CONSTITUTION OF THE EVANS HIGH SCHOOL TEEN AGE REPUBLICANS |
ARTICLE I
The name of this organization shall be the Evans High School Teen Age Republicans, herein and after to be referred to as TARS. ARTICLE II
The motto of this organization shall be “…Because I choose to be uncommon.”
ARTICLE III
The purpose of this organization shall be: To bring and expose young people to the Republican Party and to provide an opportunity for them to find political expression and recognition; To foster and encourage the activities of the Republican Party and to promote its ideals of liberty and justice; To promote the values of family, freedom, opportunity and responsibility; To discuss and educate the Evans High School community on matters of government, political affairs and political philosophy; and To advise, coordinate, and promote the activities of Teen Age Republicans.
ARTICLE IV
Membership in this organization shall be open to all members of the student body who meet all eligibility requirements for being in a student organization at Evans High School.
ARTICLE V
This organization shall have the following elected officers comprising the Executive Committee: Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary/ Treasurer. The offices of this organization shall be elected for a term of one academic year and shall serve until their successors are duly elected. The election of officers shall take place at the first general meeting of the academic school year. The powers and duties of the elected officers shall be: The Chair shall be the chief officer of the organization and shall conduct all meetings, shall make all committee assignments with the approval of the Executive Committee and shall be a member ex-officio of all committees, shall act as spokesperson for the organization, and shall have general supervision over all the programs of the organization. The Vice Chair shall in the case of the resignation, disqualification, or absence of the Chair, perform the duties of the Chair. The Secretary/ Treasurer shall keep the records and proceedings of the organization, shall be responsible for the minutes and record of attendance of all meetings, and shall keep a record of all of the organization’s financial activity. Vacancies in the office of Vice Chair or Secretary/ Treasurer shall be filled by election at the next general meeting.
ARTICLE VI
This organization shall have at least one general meeting per semester.
ARTICLE VII
The Standing Committees of this organization shall be: Program, Newsletter, Membership, Publicity, and Campaign. The Program Committee shall be responsible for arranging and setting up all programs, fundraising and social functions, be it during or not during general meetings. The Newsletter Committee shall be responsible for the publication and distribution of the official newsletter of the Evans High School Teen Age Republicans, “The Right Knight.” The Membership Committee shall be responsible for recruitment and orientation of new members. The Publicity Committee shall be responsible for publicity of all activities, projects and meetings. The Campaign Committee shall be responsible for coordinating all campaign activities with candidates, the Columbia County Republican Party and other Republican groups. This organization shall not officially endorse any Republican candidate prior to that candidate securing the Republican nomination for an office. ARTICLE VIII
The following procedure will be used to conduct all general meetings: 1. Call to Order 2. Pledge of Allegiance 3. Chair’s report 4. Secretary/ Treasurer’s report 5. Committee reports 6. Unfinished business 7. New business 8. Announcements 9. Adjournment
A motion may be passed during a general meeting by a simple majority.
ARTICLE IX
This constitution may be amended by the following procedure: A motion to hold a “special meeting for the purpose of amending the constitution” is made under New Business at a general meeting. The amendment must be presented in writing to the general meeting and read aloud prior to voting on the motion. No more than one amendment may be introduced at a general meeting. A special meeting for the purpose of amending the constitution is held no sooner than fourteen days after the motion passes. The amendment to the constitution is the only business discussed at the special meeting for the purpose of amending the constitution. This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of members present at the special meeting for the purpose of amending the constitution. No amendment shall take effect until the adjournment of the special meeting for the purpose of amending the constitution.
ARTICLE X
This document is hereby declared the Constitution of the Evans High School Teen Age Republicans and is effective immediately on this date August 8, 2007.
