| Online Classes for Students in Grades 9-12 |
Program Description |
Online learning provides another option for students to take classes they need. Some students take online courses in order to get back on track for graduation, while others may take an online course that is not available at their school. Students may also take online classes if they have a scheduling conflict at their school. Online courses are NOT "easier" than courses taken at school. Students usually find that online courses are just as challenging, if not more so, than their regular school courses.
Our high school students may enroll in online courses offered through the Georgia Virtual School program. All courses are taught by certified teachers in the state of Georgia. Students will be required to have their counselor's approval before registering for courses. The registration process is completed through the school counselors and the school's online facilitator. At the conclusion of each semester, the final exams are proctored by school and/or system personnel.
Students need daily access to a computer with an Internet connection outside of the regular school day. Specific technical requirements can be found on the Georgia Virtual School website. Success in an online course is largely dependent upon the student's level of motivation, self-discipline, time management, and communication skills. Please see "is online learning for me?" to the left of this page. Your counselor can also help you decide if online learning is a good option for you.
Our goal is to provide quality online learning opportunities to Columbia County students. Please direct questions regarding online classes to your school counselor. |
