Communication Skills: |
Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing are the foundations of communication. The first grade classes will use the Four Blocks this year. The Four Blocks is a systematic multimethod, multilevel instruction using four components of a balanced literacy program.
Guided Reading - children are exposed to a wide range of literature experiences with a focus on building comprehension. A variety of reading formats are used along with before and after reading activities.
Self Selected Reading - encourages students to become lifelong readers through teacher read-alouds and opportunities to read self-selected writing in a writer's workshop format.
Writing - Develops children's writing skills through mini lessons as well as focused and self-selected writing in a writer's workshop format. Includes - writing - conferences with students to help them apply the skills set strategies - students with various ways to to share their writing with the class
Working With Words - builds phonemic awareness - read and spell words through interactive activities. This activity helps students to apply phonic skills. |
