A native of the city of Yakima, located in the arid region of Washington State, Mr. Toney's undergraduate study was done at Grove City College, a academically rigorous -authentically Christian college in northwest Pennsylvania. Upon earning his degree, Mr. Toney taught middle school band in Frederick, Maryland before taking the position of Director of Bands at the Palmyra Area High School in Pennsylvania. At Palmyra, Mr. Toney's groups consistently overachieved, becoming one of the premier bands of the area. Mr. Toney earned a Masters Degree in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College in 2004 and has studied with notable conductors such as Dr. Edwin P. Aronld, Dr. David Brunner, and Dr. Robert Hearson.
As a trumpet player, Mr. Toney has participated in many wonderful musical experiences and was the solo soprano Eb cornetist for the North American Brass Band Association World Champion (Challenge Division) Spires Brass Band in 2001. Mr. Toney has studied trumpet with Rose Marie Allgier and Susan Sexton. Mr. Toney has continues to be active as a church and freelance musician.
Mr. Toney lives with his lovely wife Amy, sons Simon and Nolan, and super dog Lucy. The Toney family enjoys spending time working with their church and watching sports, specifically cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Duke Basketball Team, and rooting, despite their poor showings, for the Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh Pirates.
