Mailbox Money
Navy ROTC Scholarship
Navy ROTC Programs include:
-A 4 year scholarship worth up to $180,000, your choice of bachelor's degree major
-Service options: Navy, Navy nurse
-There is no obligation to commit to the Navy until your sophomore year in College, and the scholarship can then be refused. Application is not a full commitment. You have nothing to lose by applying.
-Program completion and graduation result in Commissioning in US Navy.

Minimum Test Score Requirements:
-SAT= 530 (Critical Reading); 520 (Math)
-ACT= 22 (English); 21 (Math)

Watson Brown Foundation
2009-2010 Watson Brown Foundation Scholarship
The Foundation awards individual annual scholarships of $3,000 and $5,000. Nearly 800 students receive Watson-Brown scholarship assistance. The Foundation plans to award 200 new scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Scholarships are reserved for students from 16 Georgia and South Carolina counties who attend U.S. four-year, non-profit accredited colleges and universities. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors and current undergraduate students. To be considered, on-line scholarship applications must be completed, and required support documents must be mailed to the Foundation by February 15 (postmarked deadline).

Scholarships are awarded to help defray the costs of tuition, books, room and board, and other college expenses. All scholarship checks are mailed directly from the Foundation to the financial aid office of the applicable college or university.

All scholarship applicants are advised in writing of the Board’s decisions. Letters will be mailed from the foundation office on April 15.

Energy Solutions
2009-2010 Energy Solutions Scholarship for 10th Graders
Deserving 10th grade students who show proficiency in science or math should apply for the Energy Solutions Scholarship!



The application and scholarship information can be downloaded by accessing the following website: www.energysolutionsfoundation.org. The applications, including references, must be completed and received by February 3, 2010, in order for the student to be eligible.



One 10th grader from GHS will be awarded with the $2,000 scholarship, along with a laptop. The recipient will also be enrolled in a national distinguished award competition for an additional $25,000, $5,000, and $2,500 scholarship.

Gates Millenium
Gates Millennium Scholars
Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they:

• Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American;
• Are a citizen/legal permanent resident or nationals of the United States;
• Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (un-weighted);
• Will be enrolling for the first-time at a U.S. accredited* college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student in the fall of 2010; or GED
• Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities;
• Meet the Federal Pell Grant* eligibility criteria; and
• Have all three forms (Nominee Personal Information Form completed by the student, Nominator Form completed by an educator familiar with the student’s academic record and a Recommender Form completed by a person familiar with the student’s leadership and community service) submitted by the deadline.

Scholarships applications must be submitted online by january 11, 2010 by 11:59pm or the paper application postmarked on or before January 11, 2010. Nominations booklets are available in the guidance office.

KFC
KFC Colonel's Scholars
The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program® is looking for high school seniors with entrepreneurial drive, strong perseverance, demonstrated financial need, and who want to pursue a college education at an accredited public institution in the state they reside.

The KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program is about you, your dreams and aspirations, and the perseverance to succeed. This program is offered to high school seniors planning to attend a public in-state college or university. Students who meet the criteria may apply online to become a KFC’s Colonel’s Scholar. Students selected for this scholarship are eligible to receive up to $20,000 to complete a bachelor’s degree program.

The online application will be available from December 1, 2009 through February 10, 2010.

Scholarship for Military Children
If your mother or father is active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military personnel or you are the survivor of a deceased member, and you have a military dependent I.D. card you can apply! You must be planning to attend a college or university on a full-time basis.

Each application will include the following which must be submitted
as ONE PACKAGE:

The completed two-page application
A transcript indicating a cumulative GPA of 3.0 of above (on a 4.0 scale)
A short TYPED essay.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your complete application package is received at a commissary by close of business, February 17, 2010.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship
A $3,000 college scholarship available to graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a demonstrated financial need.

A $3,000 college scholarship available to Walmart associates or dependents of associates who are graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a demonstrated financial need. If you are an associate, the application is available at

2010 Keith Brooks Endowment Application

Student Application for College Scholarship

If you are a high school senior and meet the following criteria, you may be eligible for the $4,000 Georgia Mining Foundation Endowment Scholarship which will be awarded in the name of Keith Brooks.

1. You have been accepted to the Georgia Institute of Technology, Mercer University or Southern Polytechnic (a copy of the acceptance letter must be attached)

2. You attained a minimum score of 1300 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (University of Georgia standard)

3. You must be in good academic standing

4. You must receive a faculty recommendation (teacher or counselor) and approval from the principal or headmaster of the school. The recommendation (maximum one page) should address the following personal qualities: integrity, written/oral expression, extra-curricular activities, personality, motivation, initiative, leadership and community involvement.

5. You must answer three of the eight questions (see link above for essay questions). Each essay must not exceed one page in length per question and must be typed.

6. You must provide a copy of high school transcript.

The deadline for application for the Endowment Scholarship is February 1, 2010.

2010 Scholarship Program

The Georgia Mining Association is comprised of over 45 mining and mineral producers who have operations in 112 counties in Georgia. The Association also includes more than 150 other companies that provide the mining industry with supplies and services. These companies have a significant impact on Georgia with more than 7,000 persons directly employed in the companies' operations.

To assist worthy students in Georgia with college tuition, the Georgia Mining Foundation was established with a $20,000 scholarship fund to be distributed as individual $500 scholarships. In addition to these individual $500 scholarships, the Foundation will also be giving away three (3) $1,000 scholarships to be paid out over two years ($500 a year for two years). High school seniors attending schools in Georgia are eligible to apply.

The following criteria is used in the decision-making process to determine the scholarship winners. The applicant must::

1. Have been accepted for admission to an accredited college or university in the State of Georgia.

2. Attain a minimum score of 1300 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (University of Georgia standard)

3. Have an overall average of 85% or higher

4. Completed required high school courses including:

a.four years of college preparatory English

b.three years of history plus social sciences

c.five courses from these math/science courses:
Algebra I, II; Geometry; Physical Science; Biology; Chemistry

5. receive a faculty recommendation (teacher or counselor) and approval from the principal or headmaster of the school. The recommendation (maximum of one page) should address the following personal qualities; integrity, written/oral expression, extra-curricular activities, personality, motivation, initiative, leadership, community involvement and financial need.

6. provide an essay (200 words or less) addressing the following topics; activities, home life, plans for the scholarship money, how it will help you in the future, and what you would like the committee to know about you. This essay is to provide the judges with a more personal insight about the student.

7. provide any further evidence of financial need, and

8. provide a copy of high school transcript

The Foundation will host a luncheon in which the check will be presented to the student, and a photograph will be taken. A representative of the Foundation would also like to recognize the recipient with a certificate during Honor's Day ceremonies.

Dr. Seuss's Oh, The Places You'll Go! 2010 College Scholarship Program
Essay Question: Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! delivers an important message about the chances and the troubles that life presents. Thinking about the book, what kinds of opportunities and challenges do you think your education will present in the future?

General Rules & Criteria:

- You must be a high school senior.
- Your original literary composition must be submitted in personal essay/ memoir format.
- All submissions must be typed, double-spaced, and no longer than one page (500 words) with a minimum font size of 12 points.
- Include your name and the title of your entry at the top of your submission.
- No handwritten entries.
- No photos or drawings.

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship
I. Qualification/Eligibility

a. US Citizen or permanent resident of US
b. GPA 2.5/equivalent or higher (out of a 4.0 scale)
c. High School Senior who will matriculate full-time at a US accredited four-year college or university within the fifty states or District of Columbia starting at the beginning of the fall semester or quarter of 2010.
d. Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra curricular activities.

II. Required Documentation

a. Application- Each candidate must submit a complete and timely application. An application will be considered incomplete and not processed if all instructions have not been followed or the material presented is insufficient to permit an adequate review. Do not send supplemental or corrected material after the deadline date. Applications must be typed or completed with the use of a black/blue writing ink pen. The Fund will not accept any application filled out with a pencil. Application and related documents should be neat and easy to read. Materials should be impeccable in terms of appearance and legibility. Mail the complete application packet so that it is received or postmarked on or before the deadline date of March 31, 2010. b. Official Transcript- An official copy of the applicant’s high school transcript provided by the high school staff in a sealed envelope must be included in the application packet. Submission of an application with required documents for this scholarship constitutes your authorization for the JMSMSF Scholarship Selection Committee to review your academic record.

c. Letters of Recommendation – Each packet must include two letters of recommendation (LOR). One of the letters must be from a faculty member who has taught the applicant in the classroom. Each LOR must include the reference’s name, address, telephone number, and information regarding how long and in what capacity he or she has known the applicant.

d. Financial Document – The submission packet must include a copy of the applicant’s Student Aid Report from the Department of Education. If this report is not available, the applicant can submit a copy of his/her parent(s) or legal guardian(s)’s 2009 income tax return (IRS Form 1040 or IRS Form 1040 EZ). If income tax form is used, please provide the number of individuals (including applicant) who will be working on an undergraduate or graduate degree during 2010.

e. High School Senior Picture - A high school senior picture or a picture taken above the waistline. Applicant is required to print his/her full name on the reverse-side of the picture.

f. Essay – Each candidate must provide a 500-1000 word essay focusing on “Who is your Idol and how he or she has influenced/impacted your life”. The individual cannot be relative. Essay technical requirements: double space, 11 point font size, one (1) inch margin on all sides, original and six copies, submit in English, and certify authorship and originality. The essay will be evaluated on originality, content, thought provoking ideas, innovation, and concepts previously unpublished.

Eligibility
As an entering college freshman, you must meet the following qualifications:
• Be the recipient of a Georgia Hope Scholarship.
• Demonstrate substantial financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, (FAFSA).
• Be a U.S. citizen and a legal resident of Georgia.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony (documented by a criminal background check).
• Agree to attend Augusta State University (ASU).

Benefits of the HOPE PLUS Scholarship
• The HOPE PLUS scholar will receive four one-year scholarships, renewable at the end of years one, two, and three. Renewal is dependent on keeping the Georgia Hope Scholarship (3.0 GPA) at the end of each year, and being in compliance with all ASU rules and policies.
• The exact dollar amount of the scholarship will vary according to need. However, expenses that exceed the HOPE scholarship, plus any other grants or scholarships, will be funded. Expenses funded may include housing, food, educational supplies, health care, and general living expenses.
