Welcome to the Harlem High School Freshman Academy Web Page
Harlem High School has addressed the concerns and needs of their ninth grade students by formulating the 9th grade Academy. The Academy would create a learning community that builds strong, supportive relationships with students and parents while focusing on increased academic performance of students across the four core academic areas. HHS’s 9th grade Academy serves as a bridge that spans the rough waters of adolescence, preparing students academically and socially for the rigors of high school and college and with necessary skills to compete in a global economy. Ninth Grade Advisement is part of a school-wide program designed to build meaningful partnerships between school and home and enhance the overall school climate. Advisors will individually review with each student their progress after each grading period and contact parents when appropriate.
Our Academy is self-contained: located in its own section of the building. Goals of the Academy are: • Improve academic skills • Improve study skills • Improve overall academic performance • Improve school attendance • Improve the psychosocial adjustment to high school • Decrease the retention rate • Decrease the number of discipline referrals • Decrease the dropout rate
