| All Columbia County School System professional educators are required to adhere to the certification rules and guidelines set forth by the State of Georgia and the Professional Standards Commission. Certified professional positions include classroom teachers or administrators requiring a Georgia Teaching/Service Certificate, a Georgia Leadership Certificate or a Georgia Support Personnel License. CCSS Teacher Certification/Recertification All Columbia County School System paraprofessionals are also required to hold a valid State paraprofessional certificate and adhere to the certification rules and guidelines set forth by the State of Georgia and the Professional Standards Commission. Certified paraprofessional positions include all job titles which include “paraprofessional”, including media paraprofessional and clerical paraprofessional. CCSS Paraprofessional Certification/Recertification While Georgia no longer issues provisional certificates, only at the request of the hiring Georgia employer, non-renewable certificates can now be issued based upon having a bachelor’s degree or higher earned at a regionally accredited college while also meeting minimum content requirements identified by the PSC for eligibility in a particular field. It is Columbia County’s policy that all teaching applicants pass the GACE test in the desired certificate field before hiring and applying for the candidate’s non-renewable certificate.
