The media center at North Columbia Elementary invites students to come and relax as they browse our collection of more than 10,000 books. The Media Center offers a wide range of titles to accomodate our avid readers. Students also have access to a variety of Reference materials including those in print and on-line. This year we added a listening center to provide our younger students with an opportunity to enjoy books on tape. Throughout the year, the Media Center sponsors activities to encourage students to read. |

Students in grades 1-5 can participate in Reading Counts, a computerized reading program which enables students to earn points by reading books and taking quizzes about what they read. Teachers conference with students to set individualized point goals. Students who reach their grade level goals will be honored at a luncheon provided by the Media Center in May.
The Reading Counts Program at NCE has recently undergone a significant upgrade. We now have access to more than 40,000 Reading Counts tests. Labeling our library books to indicate that there is now a test for that book will be a year long project. Due to the size of the file, the booklist will not be available online. |
| Type in the title or author of your book to find out if it has a Reading Counts Quiz or the level of the book. If there is a test that goes along with the book, that DOES NOT mean we have the book in our Media Center (but you can take the quiz). Please check our catalog to see if it's available. |
