Come to Our Media Center! Email Mrs. Yancey The primary mission of the North Harlem Elementary Media Center is to support the mission and instructional program of the school. We endorse and adopt the standards and policies of the American Library Association. To achieve this mission, the media center seeks to provide intellectual and physical access to information and ideas on all appropriate levels of diversity, appeal, and points of view. The media center is integrated into the curriculum and serves as a vital resource in the educational process of the students. A major goal of the media center is to foster a lifelong desire to read for both information and pleasure.
We utilize the Follett Destiny On-Line Catalog in our Media Center. It is only accessible at school, but parents and family members are welcome to utilize our Media Center computers anytime! |

Renaissance Place Quiz Store One of our reading programs at NHE is Accelerated Reader (AR). NHE has access now for on-line AR tests through Renaissance Place. You may click on the link above to see the tests available. This site will provide lots of information about reading levels, points, and gives a brief summary of the book content. Books with AR tests available in our media center are denoted with colored stickers for each grade level (YELLOW: Grades K-1, GREEN, Grade 2, RED, Grade 3, BLUE, Grade 4, PINK, Grade 5, and ORANGE Grades 6 and up). With our new AR web-based system, students have access to over 100,000 AR tests. Students are also encouraged to use public libraries. Students are recognized for points achievement at 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, and continuing. They are introduced on the NHE Morning Shows on Wednesdays and are noted on a repeating PowerPoint presentation in the media center, on the special boards in the hall outside the main office, and on the bulletin board in the hall outside the media center. Students with at least 100 points are treated to a special reward at the end of the school year. |

This year's fall book fair was a tremendous success. We had a wide collection of books, software, and supplies. The fair was sponsored by Scholastic. Thanks to the wonderful support from our school community, our media center earned $5,200 to purchase new books and materials from Scholastic. |
