Uncle Sam's hat
Students are expected to study Social Studies a little each night. Studying graphic organizers and study guides is the best use of study time. However, if we have not yet made those, students should study vocabulary words.

Discussion Topics
We will begin the year by discussing the connecting themes found in fourth grade social studies. Those themes are:
* beliefs and ideals
*conflict and change
*distribution of power
*individuals, groups, institutions
*location
*movement/migration
*technological innovations

By the end of this unit, students should be able to demonstrate that they are comfortable with these themes and can apply them to practical, everyday situations.

As we progress through the year, we will continually relate what we discuss to these 7 themes.
