Accelerated Reader Program

| | Students at RRE participate in a reading program called Accelerated Reader. At the beginning of the school year students take the STAR reading test to measure reading ability. A reading level is assigned to the student based on the test results, and teachers set reading goals with students based on reading level and the length of sustained silent reading time used in the classroom. From there, students choose books in the appropriate zone of proximal development. After reading each book on the appropriate level, students take computerized quizzes on comprehension, vocabulary, and/or literacy skills. Students earn points with every quiz taken, and dog tags are awarded to students for reaching reading milestones. It is amazing to watch students achieve huge strides in reading through out the school year with the use of this program. |
