Birthday Book Club The River Ridge Media Center's Birthday Book Club was established during the 2007-2008 school year thanks to a generous donation from PTO!! The purpose of the BBC is to emphasize the importance of reading and build the library collection by having students donate a book to the Media Center in honor of his or her birthday. The program gives us the opportunity to be a special part of our students' birthdays and gives our students a real feeling of pride and ownership of our library collection. |

Birthday Book Club Celebrations Birthday Book Club Celebrations take place on the 15th of the month (or a date close to the 15th if the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday) in the Media Center from 8:00am-8:30am. The celebration begins with the students choosing books to donate to the Media Center from a shelf of prepurchased books. Once chosen, a bookplate is inserted in the front of the book stating that the student donated the book in honor of his/her birthday and includes the date. Then, the student is the first person in the school to check out the book. From there, we all sit down and listen to a story by an author who also has a birthday that month. After the story, students will indulge in a birthday donut. We wrap up the celebration with a treat bag and dismiss to class. Parents are encouraged to attend the Birthday Book Club Celebration. |
How Do I Join? |
| It is easy to join the Birthday Book Club. Forms will be sent home with students a few days before the celebration for that month. Simply send the form back in with a $20 donation. Although it helps us to be more prepared for celebrations if you turn in your form early, it is O.K. if you turn it in the morning of the celebration. The form will soon be available on the website and can be turned in at any time. If you would like to know more click on the "Have Questions?" link to the right to email your question to Mrs. Rigdon. |
