All students must have attained the age of five and six by September 1 in order to be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten and first grade, respectively. Provision is made of a child who was a legal resident of one or more states for a period of two years immediately prior to moving to Georgia and who was legally enrolled in a public kindergarten or first grade, or a kindergarten or first grade accredited by a state or regional association. Children in this category are eligible for enrollment provided they will attain the age of five for kindergarten, or six for first grade, by December 31 of the fiscal year. Students who enroll in Columbia County for the first time should bring a copy of their most recent report card or grade report to ensure correct grade placement.
Students who are moving into our system from out of state will be given 90 calendar days from the time of enrollment to present to the school a certificate of immunication. However, documentation must be on file from the Health Department or a physician stating that an immunization sequence has been started and can be completed within the 90-day waiver period. In addition to the immunization certificate, Georgia also mandates that children entering kindergarten or first grade must have a certificate of eye, ear, and dental examinations. This certificate is also required of students who enter school for the first time in any grade. |
