·Professional Learning opportunities are available from a variety of sources. Columbia County offers system based courses that are advertised in the iPerform Course Catalog located in the Professional Learning Website. Login and registration instructions are provided on the site. Courses are also available at the school level based on the School Improvement Plan, established by school administration. The principal will provide all necessary information regarding these workshops as they may also be advertised through the iPerform Course Catalog. Some school-based courses may be required. Courses can also be taken through outside agencies such as RESA & GLRS. Click on the links to visit RESA’s web site and GLRS’s web site for a list of course selections. Prior Approval is required if PLU credit is sought for any outside agency training. Please refer to the Outside Agency Training link located on the Professional Learning Website.

How and when do I register for Professional Learning courses?

·Courses are posted/updated to the iPerform Management System Catalog located in the Professional Learning Webstite each semester throughout the school year. Login and registration instructions are provided on the "login page". The last day to register for a specific class is one day prior to it's start date. Registration may also be cancelled for a course through the same site.

Is there a cost associated with Professional Learning Courses?

·There is no cost for regular CCBOE employees to participate in Professional Learning oportunities. A refundable deposit may be requiered for some excursion type courses as noted in the course catalog. CCBOE substitute employees will pay $25.00 per course and non-CCBOE employees will be charged $50.00 per course.

How many PLU's (professional learning units) do I need to renew my teaching certificate?

Certified teachers are required to earn 10 PLU’s every five years for certification renewal. It is recommended that all certified personnel earn at least 2 PLU’s each school year. This includes Paraprofessionals who are also required to earn 10 PLU’s every 5 years for certification renewal. All other auxiliary personnel are encouraged to participate in Professional Learning opportunities as they relate to their job description and personal evaluation determined by their immediate supervisor.

How many PLU's do I have?

All CCBOE regular employees have access to their Professional Learning Record. This record is located in the iPerform Management System in the Professional Learning Website. This system includes user profile information, training history, certification dates and a Record of Professional Learning.

How is credit applied to my transcript?

Participants are required to sign-in on an Attendance Verification Roster at each Staff Development Workshop. The instructor will sign the roster once the course is complete. It will then be forwarded to Professional Learning (Bobbie Stapleton, Central Office, Appling) where it will be verified and recorded on each transcript. It takes approximately 30 days for credit to be issued.
