TEXT: AMERICA

EXPECTATIONS: Do not think this will be an easy class! If you are not here to learn, you can fail. I am a storyteller who teaches in the Socratic method; I ask questions. This course is very similar to what you will find in college. There is no busy work, no give me grades. Don’t ask about extra credit, it does not exist. All the responsibility is yours. Do what you are supposed to and you can pass. Do your best and get involved and you can make an A. You will enjoy our time together and get far more than exit exam material and .5 Social Studies credit out of our class if you choose to. I’ll teach but it is up to you to learn.

MATERIALS - Textbook, dedicated notebook, blue/black pen or pencil only.

HANDOUTS – Any handouts provided should be kept unless told otherwise.

READING – Reading will be assigned at the beginning of each unit of study to be completed before testing.

HOMEWORK - Homework will be assigned at the beginning of each unit of study, due the day of testing.

GRADING - Do your daily work. Any special projects, like American Gallery, will be collected, graded and returned. Your classroom participation and effort could influence your final grade as much as one letter grade, up or down. There will be approximately 4 tests, 4 quizzes and 4 vocabulary evaluations per 9 weeks. A cumulative exam or End of Course Test (EOCT) will be given at the end of the semester. Tests and exam will have matching, multiple guess, true/false, and argue the issue. The final semester grade will be an average of the two nine weeks, (85%) and the exam or the EOCT (15%).

ABSENCES – You will be held accountable come evaluation time for any and all information presented (including reading assignments). If you miss daily assignments or quiz, it is your responsibility to make them up.
