HARLEM HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA 2009-2010
The Harlem High Drama Department is open to all students in grades 9-12. It is designed to foster and develop student’s interest and passions for the art of theatre. Students are required to participate in class assignments. Harlem High is not a Fine Arts school and is fortunate to offer classes in Theater. Please remember that your efforts and behavior in Drama class should count as being of equal importance to you as your other academic courses and responsibilities. There are no excuses for not being prepared. All students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities such as one-act, literary, productions, variety shows, and spring musical. Parents are encouraged to become members of the Boosters Organization to further enhance the theatre curriculum. The following class descriptions and requirements are subject to be amended:
FAS 201-202 (Creative Dramatics)
This class is designed to introduce the acting process, stress developing imagination, observation, concentration skills, self-discipline, and respect of performers and the art of theatre. It includes developing physical and vocal control while transmitting emotions, convictions and ideas. It will involve monologues and scene work. The final project is to be determined.
FAS 221-224 (Musical Theatre)
This class is to introduce and enhance skills used in FAS 211-214 (Advanced Acting). It covers the history of musical theatre, production staging, orchestration, voice and dance for planning and staging the musical. Students will be required to perform selections children’s theatre and prepare for public presentations.
FAS 211-214 (Advanced Acting)
This class is designed to further introduce the acting process, stress developing imagination, observation, concentration skills, self-discipline, and respect of performers and the art of theatre. It includes developing physical and vocal control while transmitting emotions, convictions and ideas. It will involve monologues and scene work. The final project will be introducing Shakespeare and Children’s Theatre to elementary school children.
FAS 231-234 (Technical Theatre) This class is designed to further introduce and enhance skills in set design, lighting, sound stage and house management, equipment maintenance, and performer and patron relationships. Students will be required to design models, lighting templates to be executed for productions.
