General Art Information on grading |
All art classes will have two written tests each quarter; a mid-term and a final. The students are not allowed to take home art text books, therefore they should study the notes in their folders for the tests. The final test is an open-folder test, which should encourage the students to keep their folders up to date.
All project grades, folder grades, and test grades are weighted the same so that art talent is not an issue in the final grading of the students work.
My grading rubric for art projects is as follows:
20 points - following directions 20 points - name, period number, and date on work 20 points - turning work in on time 20 points - neatness 20 points - effort and originality

Projects and folders |
The folder is for keeping vocbulary, questions and answers, and examples of work that we have covered. The folder is kept in a drawer in the art room until the student needs to take it home to study for a test or to update missed work. The folder is checked one time at mid-term, and then it can be used for the open-folder final test. It is up to the student to keep the folder current, and have it in class when it is needed.
We try to cover the basics of each grade level in the first three week of the quarter, and then move to more detailed projects for the rest of the grading period. Projects usually include markers, paints, pen and ink, colored pencil, and pastels on two dimensional projects, and I try to include at least one three dimensional project with each group. |
