ABOUT THE TEACHER |
WELCOME TO BIOLOGY! I am Mrs. Boothe, and I teach Biology. I have taught in Columbia County for the last 14 years, beginning at Lakeside, and coming to Greenbrier when it oppened. Having grown up with a love for nature and an undying curiosity for living things, studying Microbiology at the University of Alabama was a natural major. There I minored in Chemistry and Anthropology, and proceded to work in a hospital, lab and outdoor settings before having children. I enjoy the outdoors, and when not in school you may find me biking, hiking, camping or canoeing.

ABOUT THE COURSES |
COLLEGE PREP BIOLOGY - CP Biology is an intensive course covering the broad spectrum of biology. First semester we cover cell structures, cellular processes (that include photosynthesis and cellular respiration), the theories of life on earth along with the basics of bio-chemistry. Second semester we cover taxonomy of all the Kingdoms of life from bacteria and viruses to animals, and the organ systems of the human body. In studying these we compare their structures to their functions and enjoy completing several dissections (typically worms, crustaceans, fish and an advanced vertebrate) to better understand the anatomy. Overall we cover many new topics (about 30 chapters)with about 25 new terms per week. It is essential that students review and do homework nitely and prepare for weekly or bi-weekly chapter tests. |
Contact Information and General Expectations |
Please feel free to contact me at mboothe@ccboe.net or by calling me at school and leaving a message at: 650-6040 extension 303. I check my email at least twice a day and can probably get back to you faster online. Students may stay after class for help any day, if they let me know in class. I am on campus from 7am to 3:30pm and will be glad to answer questions before or after school. I encourage students to be responsible by writing down their weekly assignments from the board each Monday, and keeping a neat notebook with their completed work and graded items. In front of their notebook should be their up to date gradesheet which they should be willing to share with you at any time. |
