CP 12 Literature
Senior CP English is a study of British Literature from the Anglo-Saxon Age (Beowulf) through the Twentieth Century. The first semester includes researching our senior topics for our Senior Projects and exploring the joys of studying Shakespeare and Macbeth. We also explore the birth of our language from its beginning Celtic years, through the Anglo-Saxons, the Normans, and the Father of English Literature--Geoffrey Chaucer. The major components of the Senior Project due the first semester are the Letter of Intent, the Interview Report, the Annotated Bibliography, and, of course, the Senior Research Paper! These components account for 25% of a student's grade. The first semester will also include SAT vocabulary, and one of the first essays will be a college entrance application essay.

Senior Project will continue into the new year and will be reflected in the 3rd 9-week grades in March with the completion of the Portfolios (fun!) which documents all of the hard work students put into their products, and, of course! the final Product--the MOST fun part! The Presentations begin after Masters and will count 25% of the 4th 9 week grade.

We will also read Elie Wiesel's Night--a truly wonderful experience for everyone. Other novels we read are the novels Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich M. Remarque, and Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen (just to make the ladies happy!).

A Midsummer Night's Dream
CP 10 Literature
Sophomores are exposed to a general study of vocabulary, grammar, and current literature such as Ray Bradbury's
Fahrenheit 451and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. They will also spend part of second semester writing an APA style-research paper on a current events topic. We also do an in-depth study of poetry by keeping a poetry notebook, analyzing poetry and writing different several original poems. All vocabulary is SAT and content based. We do an MLA research project the first semester based around Sophocles' Antigone which complements the APA research paper the second semester. We also read Monster by Walter Dean Myers and Reginald Rose's 12 Angery Men.
