Dear Parent:

Your son/daughter will be taking World History this year. I am excited to have them join my class. We live in a time when events on the other side of the globe can have intimate and profound effects on our daily lives. I want my students to learn and assimilate events and concepts of history, so they will be capable of making meaningful and insightful decisions as informed citizens.

The following is a brief description of the course and overview of course expectations. World History emphasizes the political, cultural, economic, geographic, social development and growth of world civilizations in four major world areas: Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. It covers the development of ancient civilization, empires, communications, intellectual, scientific, and technological evolution in each geographical are of study.

The first half of the year will concentrate on the period before 1800. The second half of the year will focus on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Significant emphasis will be placed on map and globe skills, information processing and inquiry approach skills.

Please be aware that World History is a requirement of graduation. Feel free to contact me concerning your son/daughter. It is my goal to make their learning experience in this class meaningful and successful and I appreciate your participation in the process. Please e-mail me at randeekaage@ccboe.net.
