Course Description: This is an introductory biology course, designed to provide a foundation in the biological sciences. This course is will give you an overview of the science of biology, the chemistry of life, the anatomy and physiology of the cell, evolution and genetics, diversity of the six kingdoms, the human body systems, and ecology. In this class, you will conduct laboratory activities regularly. There will be a state – administered End of Course Test in Biology in May that will count for your final exam. Biology is a challenging course that requires daily preparation and review. Be prepared to work hard, think, and have fun.
Classroom Rules: The main rule is that we respect each other at all times. This includes being prepared for class each day and being on time. This rule applies to everyone, including us.
1. Be prompt. I will enforce the tardy rule. (3 tardies = 3 hours of afternoon detention) 2. Be prepared. Bring all materials to class everyday. 3. Be respectful. Respect all people in the classroom and the equipment we use. 4. Be Good. Follow all HHS rules and the CCBOE Code of Conduct.
Consequences: We do not anticipate problems with anyone; however, if you choose to violate class policy you will be given: 1st Warning (verbal) 2nd Detention and we will call home and/or have a parent conference. 3rd You will be referred to an administrator.
For any severe infraction, you will be immediately referred to an administrator.
Grading Policy: 1. You will be given at least 2 days notice before a test. Being absent the day before the test is not an excuse for not being prepared. You will take the test on the assigned day. If absent on the day of the test, the test will be taken during the next class period you are present schedule permitting. Exceptions will be made only at the discretion of the instructor. 2. All major projects are due on the assigned day regardless of whether or not you are present in school. 3. Quizzes will be given at my discretion, and may or may not be announced. 4. There is homework everyday. It will either be a written assignment to be turned in or to review on your own. Written homework must be turned in when called for to receive credit. 5. No late work will be accepted. 6. After an excused absence you have 5 days to make up the missed work. Failure to make up the missed work will result in a zero. No make up work will be given for unexcused absences. 7. If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to see me about completing the work you missed. This may mean coming before or after school. 8. Keep all returned materials. They will be helpful study materials and will be necessary for verification of computer generated grades. Your note book may also be collected at any time for grading.
Evaluation: The grading will be as follows: 9 weeks Grades: 50% = Tests 15% = Quizzes 20% = Labs/projects 15% = Class work/Homework Semester Grade: 1st 9 weeks 42.5%, 2nd 9 weeks 42.5% Semester Exam/EOCT 15% Supplies: 3 ring binder – 1.5” suggested (for Biology only) 3 Tab dividers (Notes & Handouts /Test Reviews/Returned Graded Work) Notebook Paper Colored Pencils Pen/ Pencil Highlighter Media Storage device (flash Drive) Composition Book |
