Welcome HMS Parents and Students ! I look forward to teaching your child this year and helping them grow in their knowledge and understanding of mathematics. I also look forward to helping prepare your child for the challenge and rigor of mathematics at the high school level. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Parents are strongly encouraged to check the I-parent program frequently to monitor progress.
The 8th grade math course is based on the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and consists of the following units: (The unit we are currently studying is in red.)
-Expressions, Equations, Inequalities -Rational and Irrational Numbers, Square Roots -Geometry -Probability -Functions -Slope and Graphing -Systems of Equations -Show What You Know

The grading categories and percentages we use in 8th grade math are as follows:
Classwork - 20% Homework - 10% Quizzes - 20% Tests - 30% Tasks, Projects, Labs - 20%

Success in mathematics requires practice ! Homework will be given on a regular basis. Assignments are placed on the board and on this website (see the "weekly syllabus" link on the left).
My daily schedule is below:
7:15-7:35 - homeroom 7:35-9:05 - planning (students in connections classes) 9:05-10:20 - 3rd period 10:20-12:05 - 4th period (10:55-11:25 lunch) 12:05-1:20 - 5th period 1:20-2:35 - 6th period
We will have high expectations for all 8th grade students this year ! Students will meet these expectations by demonstrating the Bulldog Work Ethic at all times:
Bulldog Work Ethic Each student demonstrates the “Bulldog Work Ethic” by… *completing assigned work. *turning in work on time. *taking pride in neatness and quality of completed work. *accepting responsibility for his or her successes and failures. *always saying “I can”.
