In accordance with Georgia law, the Columbia County School District Board of Education will be hosting three public hearings to allow concerned citizens to comment on whether the School District’s millage rate of 18.3 mills should be subject to rollback.
The first public hearing will take place Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at 8:00 a.m. and the second on the same day at 6:00 p.m., both being held at the Columbia County Board of Education, located at 4781 Hereford Farm Road in Evans. The third and final public hearing will also take place at the Columbia County Board of Education on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
The Columbia County School District has maintained an 18.3 millage rate since 2015. However, due to an overall increase in the net assessed property value as calculated by the Columbia County Tax Assessors Office, the proposed rate is considered an increase over the rollback rate.
Because the School District relies heavily upon property taxes to fund education and to help accommodate growth in our county, the superintendent plans to recommend that the Board of Education approve the current 18.3 millage rate to allow the District to continue to provide a great education for students and staff in a safe, positive, and clean environment.
