Columbia County School District Police
In 2018, the Columbia County Board of Education approved the allocation of one dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) for every school, which is a safety measure unique to the Columbia County School District. The district has taken school safety one step further by adding an additional SRO, for a total of two dedicated SROs at each high school.
All SROs are certified by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Council. Combined, these SROs have more than 600 years of law enforcement experience. In addition to firearms qualifications required by the school district twice a year, SROs participate in continuing education year-round in the following areas: ethics; community policing; basic First Aid training such as Stop the Bleed and CPR certifications; de-escalation; and updates to state and federal laws applicable to law enforcement.
