Registration Deadline Extension

In response to the Coronavirus threat and the shutdown of schools, the Columbia County School District is extending the deadline for Pre-K registration. Online-only registration during the extended window will take place beginning at 8:00 a.m., Monday, March 30 until 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2020. After registering, each child will be assigned a unique Pre-K drawing ID number that will be used during the drawing on Friday, April 3, 2020.  Results for each school’s drawing will be posted on school websites on Friday, April 3, 2020.

This extended deadline is for parents who did not register before the shutdown. Parents who have already completed the registration packets at their zoned school and received a drawing ID number, do not need to register online.

Should an online registrant be selected in the lottery drawing, the child’s legal parent or guardian must provide required documentation that is to be verified in person before the child may begin the PreK program. Failure to provide hard copy documents on or before the beginning of the school year could put the child at risk of being removed from the program. Required documentation includes the original birth certificate and Social Security card for each child. In addition, two proofs of residency will also be required by the legal parent or guardian.

If you are interested in viewing a list of private centers that offers the lottery-funded Pre-K program, visit the Department of Early Care & Learning website @ www.decal.ga.gov , click on the Programs tab at the top, click on Georgia Lottery Pre-K, Find a Location, and select Columbia County from the drop-down menu, or any county in Georgia that you are willing to drive to daily for drop-off and pick-up that has an opening.

Pre-K registration for the 2020-2021 school year is scheduled for February 24 through March 20, 2020 from 9:00am until 2:30 p.m. at your zoned school.  Online Registration is not available for Pre-K due to many State forms in the packet.  However, you can click here to print the blank forms, complete, sign, and bring with you to the school.  Anyone wishing to register on/after March 23 will be added to the bottom of the waiting list in the order in which the registration forms are completed.

Children must be four years old on or before September 1, 2020 to participate in this lottery-funded program. To register to attend Pre-K at a particular school, the child must reside with his/her parent(s) or legal guardian(s) in that school zone. For exact zoning information search the Columbia County Schools website (www.ccboe.net), click on Departments, then Transportation, then Find Your Bus Stop.

Please bring the following documents to the school to confirm that you live in the zone in which you are registering:

  1. Your child’s original certified birth certificate from Vital Records at the  Health Department.
  2. Your child’s Social Security card or tax document showing the child’s number
  3. Your current gas or electric bill showing your name and your service address

(If you live with someone, and the home and utilities are in their name, they will need to come with you to the school to complete the Affidavit of Residency to be notarized; they will provide No.’s 3 and 4 at that time also.)

This registration affords you an opportunity to participate in the drawing for the limited number of slots available at your zoned site. Each child will be assigned a unique Pre-K Drawing Number when you register that will be used during the drawing on March 31 at CCBOE.  Results for each drawing will be posted on school websites and at the school by 4:00 p.m. on March 31.  Parents do not need to attend the drawing.

Bus transportation is available within your zone only and is provided as long as there is an adult at the bus stop with the child for pick-up /drop-off.

Program times are Monday through Friday, 8:40-3:40.

I dreamed I stood in a studio and watched two sculptors there.
The clay they used was a young child's mind, and they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher - the tools he used were books, music, and art;
One was a parent, who worked with a guiding hand, and a gentle, loving heart.
Day after day the teacher toiled, with a touch that was deft and sure,
While the parent labored by her side and polished and smoothed it o'er.
And then, at last, their task was done.
They were proud of what they had wrought,
For the things they had molded into the child could never be sold or bought.
And each agreed they would have failed if he had worked alone,
For behind the teacher stood the school and behind the parent, the home.
