Why should my child get a COVID-19 immunization?
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), COVID-19 immunizations help protect children from getting COVID-19 and will help prevent serious illness if a child does get COVID-19. Additionally, if your child is in close or direct contact of a positive COVID case, they will be required to quarantine from school for 10 days.
When can children be immunized?
On or after a child’s 12th birthday, all children who are 12 years and older should get a COVID-19 vaccine. If your preteen or teen hasn’t gotten their vaccine yet, talk to their doctor about getting it as soon as possible.
Are COVID-19 immunizations safe for children?
Yes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the COVID-19 immunization provides safe and effective protection against the virus that causes COVID-19. The COVID-19 immunizations have been used under the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history.
What kind of COVID-19 immunization are available for children?
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine is now available for everyone ages 12 and older. According to the CDC, in the clinical trial for children ages 12 through 15, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was effective at preventing COVID-19 with symptoms. In addition, children’s immune systems responded to the vaccine in a way similar to those of older teens and young adults. No safety concerns were identified in the clinical trial.
How much does the COVID-19 immunization cost?
There is no cost associated with a COVID-19 immunization, no matter the type, age of the patient, or location. No co-pay or cost will be incurred. Insurance information may be requested; however, insurance is not required to receive a COVID-19 immunization.
