NJROTC Tri-State Competition

Greenbrier High School’s Navy JROTC had an outstanding run at the NJROTC Tri-State Competition.

The Academic Teams came away with a first and second place win at the Brain Bowl, which is approximately 100 questions, confirming their knowledge from their Naval Science book and general curriculum knowledge.

Additionally, the NJROTC’s drill team performed well, competing in 10 individually scored events. They received 1st Place in Personal Inspection, the Academic Test, and the 16x100m Relay; and 2nd place in the Unarmed Exhibition.  The drill team took second place overall.

The competition included 32 schools from Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Their success qualified them to compete at the national level for the first time in school history. Unfortunately, due to federal funding cuts, national competitions were cancelled.

SRP Federal Credit Union Affinity Check Presentation

In 2018, SRP Federal Credit Union launched the Affinity High School Debit Card program with Columbia County School District high schools, which was designed to provide an additional funding resource for the local high schools.

Each high school partnered with SRP to design a co-branded debit card.  Every time an SRP customer makes a transaction with their school-branded debit card, the credit union makes a monetary donation to that school.  The 2024 donation totaled $55,157.80.

SRP believes that giving back to the schools is an excellent way to demonstrate its strong commitment to the local community.

Columbia County School District Aspiring Leaders Academy 2024-2025

The Columbia County School District Aspiring Leaders Academy is a course for teachers aspiring to move to an Assistant Principal position. These faculty members are selected by their school principal and screened for participation in a yearlong course that prepares them for this role.

Selected participants take part in monthly leadership classes conducted by district and school leadership personnel.  Round table discussions provide opportunities for participants to think critically, analyze, and apply the focus topic.

Outside of class, the application of knowledge and skills learned during the course provide real-life opportunities, and collaborative conversations with their peers assist them in thinking through critical aspects as they develop and refine their leadership skills.

They also have a 24-hour, job-embedded clinical experience as part of the course. During the clinical experience, they shadow current assistant principals from different school levels, providing them firsthand experience in the daily life of an assistant principal. Participants also attend one regular board meeting, one study session, and the initial budget meeting.
