Tax Notice Hearings
In accordance with Georgia law, the Columbia County School District Board of Education announces three public hearing dates and times to allow citizens to comment on the tentative millage rate of 17.10 and the future millage rate needed to operate the school district. A tentative millage rate of 17.10 marks the 4th consecutive year the Board has lowered the millage rate. The public hearings will be held at the Board of Education Building, 4781 Hereford Farm Road, Evans, GA 30809, at the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, July 9th at 8:00 a.m.
- Tuesday, July 9th at 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
The Columbia County School District reduced its millage rate to 17.20 mills last year, the lowest since 2012. It was reduced from 18.10 to 17.35 the year prior and from 18.30 to 18.10 the preceding year. However, due to an overall increase in the net assessed property value, the proposed rate is considered a tax increase over the rollback rate.
The Board of Education will meet throughout the month of July to set a millage rate to fund the FY 2025 budget. The School District’s primary sources of revenue come from state funding and local tax dollars. These valuable dollars are utilized in a fiscally conservative manner while ensuring a high-quality education. The Columbia County School District works diligently to engage, enrich, and inspire students every day. We are proud to support the Columbia County community’s dedication to ensuring maximum success for each student in a safe and positive environment.
