Child Find

The Columbia County School District Department of Special Education Services is proud to offer a free and appropriate public education with a full continuum of services tailored to meet the individual needs of eligible students ages 3 through 21.  All referrals are handled with strict confidentiality, and services are offered at no cost to families.  Parents, legal guardians, or surrogate parents maintain the right to decline services and are entitled to procedural safeguards as outlined by federal and state regulations.

Our public schools offer screenings and comprehensive evaluations in areas of suspected disabilities, including:

  • Specific Learning Disabilities
  • Speech Language Impairments
  • Physical Impairments
  • Vision and Hearing Impairments
  • Intellectual Disabilities
  • Emotional Behavior Disorder
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Developmental Delays
  • Other Health Impairments

 

For information regarding eligibility and the referral process, please contact the principal or school counselor at your zoned school.  Each school is supported by a Special Education Compliance Specialist who can assist with questions and guidance.

For students who are homeschooled or attend private schools within Columbia County but are not enrolled in the Columbia County School District, referrals are managed by the Department of Assessment in collaboration with the Special Services Office.  Please call (706) 541-2723 for assistance.

Child Find 2026

On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, 9:00-10:00 a.m. a meeting will be held at the Columbia County Board of Education in room 350 at 4781 Hereford Farm Rd. Evans, GA, to discuss eligibility criteria and types of services that are available through the Board of Education for children with disabilities who may be attending a home-school or a private school program.
