Drum Corps International
A standout group of student musicians from Greenbrier High School, Harlem High School, and Lakeside High School all earned national recognition this summer through the prestigious Drum Corps International (DCI) challenge.
After passing initial auditions last fall, these talented musicians committed to months of rehearsal camps and intensive training. Their hard work paid off with performances in the elite DCI Summer Tour—an honor reserved for the most dedicated and skilled performers in the marching arts.
We’re proud to celebrate these students’ incredible achievements and the passion they bring to their craft.

Exchange Club of Columbia County

As Constitution Day recently reminded us of the importance of our nation’s founding principles, we are proud to recognize the Exchange Club of Columbia County for its continued support of the district-wide Freedom Shrine project.
Freedom Shrines are powerful visual displays featuring key U.S. documents like the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, enriching students’ understanding of American history and civic responsibility. Thanks to the Exchange Club, the Freedom Shrines in our schools exist because of their dedication.
During the 2024–2025 school year, the Club helped install Freedom Shrines in three additional schools and is partnering with the CCSD Foundation to bring three more this year. By the end of this school year, 21 CCSD schools—including all middle schools—will proudly display a Freedom Shrine, with a goal of reaching every school in the district within two years.
Beyond this initiative, the Exchange Club also leads annual campaigns that benefit our students, including a back-to-school supply drive for all eight middle schools and an annual scholarship program supporting CCSD graduates.
We’re grateful for the Exchange Club’s longstanding partnership and its unwavering commitment to our schools and community.

TechNet Augusta Capture the Flag Competition Winners
TechNet Augusta, a premier three-day conference focused on the evolving cyber domain, once again brought together military leaders, government officials, and industry experts to collaborate on the future of cybersecurity. Hosted with support from the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence at Fort Gordon and key partners like Parsons Corporation, the event fosters open dialogue, networking, and hands-on problem-solving.
One of the conference’s most anticipated events was the Capture the Flag (CTF) competition, a high-stakes cybersecurity tournament designed to challenge participants’ technical skills and strategic thinking. Two schools from the Columbia County School District placed in the top three. Whether competing solo or in teams, participants raced to uncover hidden “flags” by exploiting vulnerabilities across a range of digital environments.
This year’s CTF topics included:
- Binary Exploitation
- Reverse Engineering
- Web Exploitation
- Cryptography
- Forensics
- Security
Each challenge tested competitors’ ability to decrypt code, analyze systems, and identify weaknesses in web applications—skills critical to defending against real-world cyber threats.
TechNet Augusta continues to be a vital platform for addressing procurement challenges and strengthening the cyber capabilities of our military and national infrastructure. Events like Capture the Flag not only showcase emerging talent but also reinforce the collaborative spirit needed to navigate today’s complex digital landscape.

2025 John Hancock Award
North Columbia Elementary School
Recognizing that cursive writing strengthens student confidence, connects learners to history, and supports essential cognitive development, the Georgia Department of Education recently recognized schools for demonstrated excellence in cursive instruction.
The John Hancock award celebrates elementary, middle, and high schools that go above and beyond in teaching cursive writing – a skill that builds fine motor strength, enhances literacy, and allows students to engage meaningfully with historical texts in their original form. As part of Georgia’s English Language Arts (ELA) standards, cursive writing plays a vital role in preparing students for academic success and lifelong learning.
North Columbia Elementary School's Principal Tonya Gambrell and Instructional Specialist Tiffany Eargle, accepted this special recognition.

Thanks to Evans High School JROTC for leading the Pledge of Allegiance at the latest Board of Education meeting. Great job, student leaders.
