School Safety is a Team Effort

Now more than ever, safety is a top priority for the Columbia County School District. In addition to continuing our ongoing practice of regular safety drills, our leadership team has planned a series of steps to keep our students, faculty and staff safe.
School Safety Officers

The Board of Education approved the addition of 23 School Safety Officers, one to protect and serve each of our 32 schools. This highly trained group of former law enforcement officers will take on the role of watchdog for the students and staff in each of our schools. Before the approval of the 23 new Safety Officers,  a team of 9 dedicated Safety Officers were responsible for patrol of all schools. Now, under the supervision of the school district’s Director of School Safety, Chief Lance Poss, our original team of safety officers will be assigned to one school each to perform a number of duties including monthly drills to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe.
See Something. Say Something
With these and other increased and improved safety measures, we hope to our hallways of learning and growth safe for all. Our goal is to never become complacent, so our drills and trainings continue to evolve. But we can’t do it without you! If you see something, say something.
