Welcome to the start of another great school year in the Columbia County School District! I’ve had the privilege of delivering this message for the past five years and the excitement, anticipation, and hope have all intensified every year from my first year as a new teacher. Each new school term brings with it experiences and opportunities never seen before… things that inspire us to do more for our students, our schools, our communities, and ourselves.

Four Schools Earn Flagship Distinction For Service to Military-Connected Families

The Columbia County School District (CCSD) is pleased to announce that four schools have been recognized as 2026 Military Flagship schools by the Georgia Department of Education for going above and beyond to provide a supportive environment for military students and families.

2026-2027 Open House

Schools will host back-to-school Open House events to help families prepare for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. High school Open House will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 3–5 p.m. Middle school Open House is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 3–5 p.m., followed by elementary school Open House on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 5–7 p.m.

Congratulations to Ms. Tiffany Tanner, music teacher at Parkway Elementary School, for being named the 2026 Columbia County School District Teacher of the Year.

Board of Education Champions Legislative Effort to Enhance Homeowner Tax Exemption

Governor Brian Kemp has officially signed House Bill 783, a powerful new measure championed by the Columbia County Board of Education during this year’s legislative session. This bill raises the homestead exemption from $2,000 to an impressive $10,000 for eligible homeowners, offering meaningful financial relief and reinforcing the Board’s commitment to both educational excellence and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Columbia County Board of Education Approves Lowest Millage Rate in 35 Years

In alignment with Georgia state law, the Columbia County Board of Education approved an estimated rollback millage rate of 16.234 mills during its regular session meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. This decision marks the fifth consecutive year the Board has reduced the millage rate, bringing it to its lowest level in 35 years.
