Over 304 athletes from the Columbia County School District participated in the 2023 Special Olympic Games held Friday, March 24th at Lakeside Park in Evans, Georgia. Riverside Middle School students held a clap-out to encourage their athlete representatives as they prepared to travel to the Games. The Athletes prepare for the games throughout the year in their special education classes and at sponsor facilities in the community. The Games give them a chance to show off their skills and earn recognition for their accomplishments. Teachers, friends, and family gather to support their student-athletes, but also to come together as a community.

you know I've been doing this for a long time and every single year it still gets me every single time you know where County that are mentioned engage in Raging Fire and you really have a chance here in Riverside to see those words brought to life every single day because every kid in this building matters and love that you see here the signs all of that spirit it's  real it's authentic and every way we're excited to be out here on beautiful day at Lakeside High School Park I just celebrate all of the hard work of our student-athletes and Special Olympics I mean this is a wonderful event a great event for all the people we know what the disabilities to get together and in the parents also so many people have come together to make this every year we're looking forward to all there do today and celebrating with them on all their accomplice disadvantage if my teammates and classmates that they had seen in years past they are different. are they all get to come back together on this day and compete and just can rekindle the Friendship see each other grew up here with the different events that we trained for in the community and so you know it's just a great day for them to Loudoun taste test their skills and put him to work and just really shine today and we can all remember time so we participated in special events in their special memories for all of us so we're looking forward to fighting that to our students today so we can live on and their memories for years to come he has two younger siblings who thankfully experience what she experienced but they're very active in their communities to go The Anthem performances choir bands and she doesn't have that you know so she gets to come here her classmates and it'll get to give each other high-fives to get encourage each other so we can all be out here giving her that special day that she doesn't normally get a I'm always here for a good cause so I was like I want to do it because it should be a fun time but you know we have our challenges but overall it's the gray causing I'm happy to help the community it really is and all your kind of event that the students work on in their classes and with their teachers and then see this is the culmination of all their hard work we have so much support with our parents and other people in the community such a special day for our kids at this is a beautiful opportunity to shine and to be seen and heard and meant to be.
